In this novel,“Snow Falling On Cedars”, by David Guterson, we can meet many interesting characters. The story of this novel is about Japanese people's sadness during WW2, racial tension, injustice, unachievable love, and a murder in a beautiful island called “San Piedro”, whose culturally mixed population includes families of German, Scandinavian and Japanese origin. The beginning of the story is that Kabuo Miyamoto was suspected and accused of a murder. So, a trial was proceeding. The author described the setting of the story: characters, places, and past stories. While the story is unfolding, the story sometimes flashes back and returns to the present.
My most favorite character is Ishmael in this novel. He always remembered his first lover. He know that he can always cherish such a memory of love. Though he had only an arm because of war and he sometimes dislike the world and people, he has had the warm heart for his lover for a long time. Also,he was honest and he knew that he must report the truth about the crime to the people as a reporter. He had a responsibility about that. So,he tried to find the evidences that help Kabuo Miyamoto. This shows the reason why I like him.
